Texture Tuesday

Wow!  I’m really rusty!  It’s been so long since I’ve posted.  But, I thought I’d give it a shot today.
Just like with everyone else….real life takes over and the blog comes in second!

I had some surgery and put my camera on the shelf for a bit.  Then we were blessed with our first grandchild!
We took several trips too.  It’s been quite a summer!

I’m not sure I can keep up with two blogs, taking classes and community work.
I think my blogging will be sporadic at best!  But I want to improve my photography skills, so hopefully
you’ll see some of those efforts from time to time here…

Thanks for checking in!

Day 8: Beyond Layers: “Start to Finish”

“Man’s mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions.” ~Oliver Wendell Holmes

If Mr. Holmes is correct, then my mind must be larger by INCHES this week! 😉
I learned many new steps and skills with PhotoShop Elements.  My mind was whirling.  (and growing, apparently!)

Now….if I can just retain these new concepts!

Texture Tuesday…..(I know…it’s Wednesday again!)

Today we are using a photo that POPS with color, and adding at least one of Kim Klassen’s textures.
I love Dahlias, and especially this particular one.   I photographed this charming posy in the gardens of the Grand Hotel
on Mackinac Island, Michigan.

I used Kim’s Havana texture at a 37% opacity.  I also used a paint brush to add some contrast around the edges of
the image and on a few light colored petals.

[Photographically Speaking] Day 4 “Vision and Blur”

Our assignment for Day 4 is: “Vision and Blur”.

I can get a fair amount of blur in my photos naturally, as I’m not always in focus! 😉

Today our assignment was to have a photo with a wide open aperture, and a nice blur in the background.  My regular lens doesn’t do that as well as my macro, of course.
The photo I took today was with my regular lens.   I softened the light from the window in the background with a light diffusing curtain.

The locket belonged to my grandmother who was born in the late 1800’s.   I thought the quote was perfect for a locket.

In PhotoShop Elements I added an overall texture to the photo at 51% opacity.   I also used a brush to add a bit of extra color around the edges and cut the shine of the chippy paint on the table top.
