Texture Tuesday

Wow!  I’m really rusty!  It’s been so long since I’ve posted.  But, I thought I’d give it a shot today.
Just like with everyone else….real life takes over and the blog comes in second!

I had some surgery and put my camera on the shelf for a bit.  Then we were blessed with our first grandchild!
We took several trips too.  It’s been quite a summer!

I’m not sure I can keep up with two blogs, taking classes and community work.
I think my blogging will be sporadic at best!  But I want to improve my photography skills, so hopefully
you’ll see some of those efforts from time to time here…

Thanks for checking in!

Judy

Black and White with a Touch of Color

Hello dear readers…

Today, something new.   We are to take an image, and apply a Black & White “Action”, or a Black to White gradient map layer,
and then bring back some of the original image’s color.

Since I have to review the lesson on downloading tips for “Actions”, several more times…..(it sounded rather confusing at first!) I decided to

use a Black  to White gradient map layer instead.   At least I do know how to do that!

In PSE 11,  I created a new adjustment layer, and made that my Black to White gradient map.  Then, I used the paint brush tool (in black) to gently go over

the brass key in the photo, bringing back the color, until the key had the appearance I wanted.

Next came the quote about Courage.  I made a brush stamp for the quote, so I can reuse it instead of typing text each time.
I went on to make brush stamps for a few other quotes I have, also.  That was certainly fun to do!

Day 12~ Brush-Lovin’

Today’s lesson was about using the brush tool as a stamp.  What fun!

I stamped the quote on my barn photo with the brush technique Kim taught us.

Day 8: Beyond Layers: “Start to Finish”

“Man’s mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions.” ~Oliver Wendell Holmes

If Mr. Holmes is correct, then my mind must be larger by INCHES this week! 😉
I learned many new steps and skills with PhotoShop Elements.  My mind was whirling.  (and growing, apparently!)

Now….if I can just retain these new concepts!

Assignment: Day 6~Time Capsule

Earlier this week, I told you I’d be taking photos of parts of my daily life for my Time Capsule.
As I said then: we often concentrate on capturing special moments like birthdays, trips, celebrations, etc.
Those are fine, but it’s fun to catch the every-day routines in your lives, once in awhile too, especially if you
have children, parents, grandparents, siblings or pets living with you.

It’s interesting to take a look at your Time Capsules a few years from now and see what changes occurred.
Perhaps you changed your hairstyle,  your children have grown up,  you’ve added a new pet, or you
moved to a new home.

“When you look back everything is different, but while you’re living your everyday life, it seems
as if nothing is changing.”  Unknown

Here, then, is a tiny capsule of my everyday life.

Maybe you’ll make your own!
